Human Relations Ordinance

UPDATE: (9/15/13):
At its October 15 meeting, the Board Introduced for subsequent adoption the Human Relations Ordinance banning discrimination on the basis of LGBT status to also include employment, public accommodations, and other prohibited practices in Meridian Township.

UPDATE: (7/25/13):
At its July 23 meeting, the Board adopted the anti-discrimination ordinance related to Housing and Accommodations in Meridian Township.

UPDATE: (7/13/13):
At its July 9 meeting, the Board took the first steps toward embracing a comprehensive anti-discrimination policy by amending the Board Policy Manual and several Township ordinances related to Housing and Accommodations in Meridian Township.


Background:

The Township Board is considering the enactment of a comprehensive civil rights policy that would include the prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. Several local governments, including the cities of Lansing and East Lansing, have enacted similar civil rights ordinances.
